The capote-manta, a standard-issue army greatcoat consisting of a large, heavy wool blanket with a buttoned collar and side fastenings. The name itself literally describes its hybrid nature—a combination of a cape and a blanket.
This was officially adopted in the 1926 regulations, although it had already been part of the Legion’s uniform since its inception and was widely used throughout the civil war.
